KremsChem is further expanding its on-site fire brigade and, on November 22, 2024, added the new fire truck, the Hilfsleistungslöschfahrzeug HLF 3, to its existing fleet. “The HLF 3 is a new and highly advanced emergency vehicle. With its specialized equipment and tailored design, it is perfectly suited to the specific needs of our site and the expected volume of emergency calls,” explains Michael Kunz, CEO of KremsChem.
The on-site fire brigade has a long tradition at the Krems-based chemical company. “Our on-site fire brigade has been in existence since 1969. We have 135 members, six of whom are full-time,” Kunz says, and adds, “The fire brigade was voluntarily established to enhance safety on the site. Additionally, we support the Krems Fire Department.”
The permanently staffed, site-specific on-site fire brigade ensures a rapid response in case of an emergency. Preventive fire protection is another key task. Numerous proactive measures are implemented to prevent damage events. “We also support the surrounding fire departments with our special equipment, such as our large fan,” explains Josef Schrabauer, Commander of the On-Site Fire Brigade, and continues, “We work closely with the fire departments. They are part of our alarm plan. Through joint inspections and exercises, we train for real emergencies.”
The new HLF 3 vehicle is designed for fast and efficient deployment in a variety of emergencies, with a special focus on hazardous material incidents and fires. It is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a wide range of specialized equipment.
Technical Highlights of the HLF 3:
- Alcohol-resistant Foam: The vehicle is equipped with a 1,000-liter tank of alcohol-resistant foam to effectively combat fires fueled by alcohol or similar substances.
- Powder Extinguishing System: In addition to foam resources, the HLF 3 features a powerful powder extinguishing system with a 250 kg supply, which is crucial for incidents involving chemicals and flammable liquids.
- Hazardous Material Equipment: The vehicle is equipped with a range of devices specifically designed for handling leaks and hazardous materials. This includes equipment for sealing and containing dangerous substances to minimize environmental damage and risks to humans and animals.
- Water Cannon for Foam Attacks: The water cannon installed on the HLF 3 allows for the efficient application of foam agents during large fires and incidents involving hazardous substances.
- Sturdy Chassis: With its 18-ton chassis, the HLF 3 is capable of towing heavier loads, making it able to transport specialized trailers for additional fire brigade operations.
The fleet includes, in addition to the new HLF 3 (Rescue and Firefighting Vehicle), the HLF 2 (Rescue and Firefighting Vehicle), VF (Supply Vehicle), KDO (Command Vehicle), LUF (Air Support Trailer), SPA400 (Large Area Pump), and StromA 400kVA (Power Generator).
“With this vehicle, we are not only expanding our technical capabilities but also enhancing the safety of our operations and the surrounding companies. The HLF 3 strengthens the operational capacity of our fire brigade, both for fire incidents and hazardous material emergencies, thus contributing significantly to improved protection and greater safety,” concludes Schrabauer.
